Being born in Omaha, Nebraska every Youngman wanted to be a “Corn Husker” and play for the University of Nebraska, I was no different but our plans changed as my mother was sent an invitation to become part of the medical staff at Multnomah County Hospital in Portland, Oregon. I arrived in Portland when I was 10 and soon was playing Pop Warner Football for Lombard Foods and baseball in the Pony League for Alpenrose Dairy. Played basketball for Woodlawn Elementary and soon was at Jefferson High School where I played football and basketball. My junior year I was required to transfer to John Adams High School where I played basketball and football. I also starred into two musicals and sang first tenor in an award -winning ensemble. I graduated in 1971 and joined the Air Force and played two seasons for them and assisted our team in winning two PACAF Tournament Championships. I returned home and entertained thoughts of a possible pro-career, but through my own naivety and inappropriate choices that was never to be! During my turmoil, afflictions and feelings of desertion the Lord showed me that He had another plan and I’m still living it today!
